Two poems for my "sisters"
I want to do something special for my three best friends for our graduation, so I decided to write a poem for them. I ended up writing two and I need to decide which one to use. That's where you come in: tell me which one you like best! Please and thanks :)
Four in one
We are four separate bodies
With four separate lives.
Different hopes, different dreams,
Different fears, different trials.
We like our own music,
Our own sports, our own shows.
We all have our own secrets,
The things nobody knows.
We have our own families,
Our own destinations.
We all have special gifts,
And our own limitations.
We are nothing alike,
Not one like another,
But we share something special,
And that is each other.
We are there for each other
Through the good and the bad.
We dry the tears
Be they joyful or sad.
Our pasts are built
On memories so sweet.
The bonds that we have
Cannot be beat.
We pour out our hearts
When they’re heavy or broken,
Knowing “they’ll understand”
Even words left unspoken.
We laugh at ourselves
And our ridiculous plans,
But wherever they lead us
We’ll go hand in hand.
The four of us
Make each other whole.
Though we are four separate people
We share one single soul.
Through it all
Though the trees we climbed
may fall to the ground
Though the streets we played in
may no longer exist
Though the houses we called home
may be torn down
Though the schools we grew up in
may sit empty
Though the hair we fretted about
may gray with age
Though the clothes that we shared
may go out of style
Though the elders we looked up to
may see the end of their days
Though the kids we babysat
may become parents themselves
Though the shows we watched
may become only reruns
Though the bands we sang along with
may be played on “oldies”
Though the boy next door
may move away
Though our inside jokes
may be forgotten
Though the pages of books we treasured
may wrinkle from wear
Though photographs we cherished
may yellow with time
Though tears of pain and anguish
may wet our cheeks
Though smiles of overwhelming joy
may wrinkle our skin
Though the lakes that we swam in
may dry up
Though the sun that shone above us
may set ten thousand times
Our friendship will stand strong through it all.
